Across The Mountains

Across The Mountains

copyright Dan Wetzel, Kristen Grainger 2023

Flying across the mountains, fast as I can go
Far away from trouble
Down some gravel road

I woke up this morning
In the pearly light of dawn
A note pinned to your pillow
Told me you were gone

Said you love another
Her heart you hoped to win
And I should get to moving out
Because she was moving in

Chorus
Half a tank of gas gets me up this mountain pass

I know a place to hide on the downhill side

If I had winged horse, lightning in his eye

I’d call my horse and then across

These mountains we would fly

Some will build a house of straw
Some a house of bricks
You’re the one who built our little
House of kindling sticks

Douse it all in kerosene

Tossing in the match

In my rearview mirror

See the curtains catch

Chorus

Flying across the mountains, fast as I can go

Far away from trouble

Down some gravel road
