It’s The Little Things

It’s The Little Things

copyright Dan Wetzel 2023

It’s you and hot coffee in the first morning light
When a bad dream wakes me from a cold sweaty night
It’s all your attention when I’m needing it most
It’s the way that you show me in a poem that you wrote

It’s staying up late and talking ‘til dawn
For no reason at all, it’s writing this song
It’s the first face I see when I open my eyes
And the last one I kiss when we whisper good night

Chorus

It’s the little things, it’s the little things

It’s your small hand in mine while we’re walking alone
It’s making dinner together in our own cozy home
It’s picking out movies and walking the pup
It’s a sweet country drive while the sun gives it up

It’s making up for lost time, making time for what’s lost
Retracing our steps over bridges we’ve crossed
It’s the rest of the sentence that you don’t have to say
It’s the way that you sing the song that I play

Chorus

Bridge
The little things stay around when the big things wear down
When the big show is over in some other town
I know that I’m lucky for all that life brings
What matters the most to me

Chorus
